Supabase Edge Functions

Deno-based edge functions with a guarded outbound path

Edge functions are Deno processes with fetch() and little else. Backfire gives them a target-validated path out plus a record of what each invocation did, without adding a database round trip to the call path.

What to expect

  • Standard fetch() from Deno — no npm dependency and no import map changes.
  • Keep the key in Supabase secrets so it never enters the repository.
  • Blocked and unresolvable targets fail before a connection, and cost no trips.
  • The envelope reports trips charged and the remaining balance on every call.

Working example

supabase-edge-functions
Deno.serve(async (req) => {
  const res = await fetch('https://backfireapi.base44.app/functions/forward', {
    method: 'POST',
    headers: {
      Authorization: `Bearer ${Deno.env.get('BACKFIRE_KEY')}`,
      'Content-Type': 'application/json',
    },
    body: JSON.stringify({
      url: 'https://api.example.com/v1/items',
      method: 'GET',
      timeout_ms: 8000,
    }),
  });

  const envelope = await res.json();
  return new Response(JSON.stringify(envelope), {
    headers: { 'Content-Type': 'application/json' },
    status: envelope.ok ? 200 : 502,
  });
});
